Q) Do I need to bring Hip / chest waders?

A) We have hip waders at the lodge (Sizes 4 to 13) you can rent for $10.00 per week so there is no need to bring your own. It will save a lot of bulk in your luggage.

Q) Do I need to bring a fishing pole for fishing off days?

A) All fishing poles, tackle and bait are furnished on all of our guided fishing trips in your package. For after hours free fishing time you can bring your own pole or rent one from us for $25.00 per week.

Q) Do I need to bring a cooler to ship my fish home?

A) You can if you want to. We recommend shipping your fish home in waxed boxes because you can get more fish in a waxed box than you can in a cooler and the boxes weigh less than a cooler. We have shipping boxes for sale at the lodge for $16.00 per box. They have an insulated liner and a plastic bag. They work real well and keep your fish frozen for shipping.

Q) Are there laundry facilities at the lodge?

A) Yes. We have 3 washers and 3 dryers. This helps so you don’t have to bring so many clothes.

Q) Do I need to rent a car or can I just take a Taxi to and from the Kenai Airport?

A) Yes, you will need a rental car. We are located in the center of a lot of places to fish. It doesn’t matter which trips you decide to do there is some travel involved. The best way to do it is to share the expenses of the rental car with your group. The cheapest way we have found is to use a rental car company away from the airport to avoid the airport taxes.

Q) What happens if my Halibut trip is cancelled due to high seas?

A) If any of the trips planned are cancelled due to weather you can choose to do something else that day if we can find you a trip you would like or we can refund the price of the trip. Some times (but not often) we can rearrange your schedule and try to get the Halibut trip in another day. Chances are if your trip was cancelled so were a hundred others

Q) What else is there to do in the area besides fish?

A) There are a lot of other things to do such as hiking, day cruises, dog sled riding, sightseeing float trips, flightseeing trips, white water rafting, horseback riding, movies, clamming on low tides, ETC.

Q) What is the average cost of meals in the area?

A) Dining out is pretty much like what it is anywhere else. We have fast food restaurants, nice sit down restaurants, and everything in between.

Q) What are the average temperature / rainfall for the different months of the season?

A) Temperatures average high in May is 55, June is 62, July is 65, August is 63, and September is 55. Those are the average highs. It can get into the 80’s. The average rainfall in May is .70 inches, June is 1.10 inches, July is 1.90 inches, August is 2.40 and September is 2.60. Normally the saying is It isn’t a matter of if but when”. Just make sure to bring your rain gear.

Q) What kind of utensils / seasonings are available for the customer to use while at the lodge?

A) We have a fully stocked kitchen with all the pots & pans you will need as well as a fully stocked seasonings cupboard. Two ranges, two ovens, eight stove top burners, one microwave oven and three bar-b-que’s on the back deck.

Q) What major stores are in the area?

A) There are plenty of places to purchase anything you might have forgotten. Safeway and Fred Meyer are the most popular places our customers shop for food and souvenirs. There are many other gift shops around as well.

Q) How do I get my fish home?

A) The best, cheapest and most common way is to check it as luggage on the plane. That way it will arrive the same time you do. You are allowed 2 pieces of checked luggage that weigh no more than 50 pounds each. After that each airline has a different rate they charge for each extra piece. Check the airlines web site you will be flying for the particulars. If for some reason you are not going from the lodge straight home and need us to ship your fish to you we can ship it FedEx from the lodge on the day you decide. The price will usually run around $3.00 per pound overnight and something less than that for two day delivery. It is hard for us to quote prices through another company because they don’t consult with us when setting their prices.

Q) Will my cell phone work up there?

A) AT&T and Verizon cell phones do work. Depending on the plan you have with them. They may charge you a roaming charge. I suggest you check with your provider so you don’t end up with the national war debt for a cell phone bill.

Q) Do you have internet access available?

A) Yes we have wireless internet. You will need your own laptop.
