King Salmon Flyouts Halibut Flight Seeing

For the angler who wants a shot at King Salmon and Halibut on the same day. From about May 1st to June 10th the King Salmon start coming up the Cook Inlet in search of their home rivers. We'll start the day close in to shore trolling for Kings. When the tide gets right we'll put away the King gear and head out for deeper waters and Halibut fishing. A great way to get two trips for the price of one.

May, June & July:

All Salmon trips are approximately 5 1/2 hours and are on the Kenai and Kasilof Rivers. They include a seasoned guide, all tackle and bait.

KENAI RIVER:

May:

King Salmon start to return to the Kenai River in Mid-May. The last two weeks in May provide an opportunity to catch Kings averaging 30-50 pounds. Often times Kings are caught over 50 pounds. The world record was caught on May 17th, 1985 that weighed in at 97 1/4 pounds.

June:

The first run of King Salmon is well underway and good fishing continues throughout the month. In recent years there has been a catch and release in effect for fish over 45" and under 52" long at certain times in June.

July:

The second run of Kings begins, and not only are there more fish in this run, they are generally larger in size averaging 40-60 pounds. Each year many fish are caught well over 60 pounds. On this river you are only one "takedown" from a possible new world record. The limit is one fish per day and two fish per year. King fishing ends on July 31.

KASILOF RIVER:

This is another good King fishery beginning in mid May and stays consistently good through the 20th of June. Kings on this river average 10-40 pounds and all fishing is done from drift boats. The limit is one fish per day.

June, July, August & September:

The beautiful upper Kenai River is truly one of the world's finest recreational experiences for both the accomplished and the novice angler. You'll catch Sockeye (Reds), Coho (Silvers), Dolly Varden, Char, and Trophy Rainbow Trout. Rainbow Trout are carefully handled, photographed, and then released. Escape the crowds and enjoy world class fishing action amidst dazzling mountain scenery. Fly fishing enthusiasts are welcome. Add $75.00 to any Salmon trip.

August & September:

By late July and early August the fiesty Silvers are returning to both the Kenai and the Kasilof Rivers. These fish range from 8-20 lbs. and are a hard-fighting acrobatic fish that are fun and exciting on light tackle. There are two separate runs that extend well into September. On even numbered years over a million Pink Salmon enter the river creating lots of action. The Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden fishery below Skilak Lake really takes off during this time and is great for both spinning and fly fisherman.
